I’ve done a lot of writing (books, poems, articles, non-fiction). I also did a BA and an MA in writing. Part of the trouble with doing those degrees is that you have to research the market, and in doing so, I realised that there is no market for books now. Despite this I’d already stuck several books on the internet, self-publishing. I have great reservations about self-publishing now. I have left one book on Amazon which is the three “Wolfhound” action novels in one volume, just by way of a token of thanks for the people who liked that series.
I do now feel that self-publishing is actually vanity publishing by a different name.
At the moment I am taking a break from writing and if I start again I feel like I may use a different name than my own. However, think the life has been sucked out of publishing your own work on the internet. At one time I was glad to get it out there, now I wonder what the point of it is. I might just write for myself and never publish again.
I did once put quite a lot of work on ABC tales and on this website but I really don’t know why… dopamine hits? Or just to have AI scape it all off? Certainly, the giant online slush pile is not reduced for the lack of my stuff.
