I have been writing constantly since I first could. My first written word for some strange reason was ‘here’. I was very proud of this word and would secretly hide behind an arm chair and write ‘here’ on a peice of paper.
I was rescued from problems with reading by Captain W.E. Johns and his Biggles books. I needed to know what was inside so much that it made me learn to read, and of course Johns inspired me to write. I adore Geroge Orwell, Douglas Adams, Alistair MacLean. Blakes 7 the BBC TV sci-fi series was also a big influence “pirates in space”. Blakes 7 was an inspiration for Burning Wolfhound.
Before Burning Wolfhound I had written 5 novels, the first two were started at school. I feel that those novels were just practice, I never looked to publish. They two science ficton novels and three literary ones. The fifth was very much inspired by Orwell’s Coming up for Air.
I also write short stories, articles, non-fiction and poems. My poems are either confessional or avant-garde in style. My short stories tend to be in various genres.
I was born in Nottingham, UK, but left before I was one. Since then I have lived in Ecuador, Indonesia, India, and Thetford. I decided in 2014 that I was able to confront the spectre of learning again, and did a writing access course, then a Creative and Professional writing degree at the University of East London. Here I met my wife TyLean. I now live in an old falling down church in the Highlands of Scotland with my actress, musician and artist wife. We have two goofy ragdoll cats. My core value is to continue to spread the word of conservation or ‘saving the planet’ that was my focus in Asia and South America.
I also do webdesign.
